The Confederation of Australian International Arts Festivals (CAIAF) is a not-for-profit incorporated association of the nation’s major state-based festivals, established in 1997.

The objects and purposes of the Association are:

  • to facilitate the development of new Australian works in the performing arts sector, and to extend the life of these works;
  • to promote international cooperation, collaboration and presentation of new Australian works;
  • to further cultural exchange and development, and the encouragement of the arts through the support provided to the programs and activities of the members of the Association; and
  • to seek investment from all appropriate sources including Government grants, and where possible private sector sponsorship to support the activities of the Association.

CAIAF is tasked with administering the Commonwealth Government’s Major Festivals Initiative investment program.
